USDT vs USDe for Futures Margin: Yield and Account Rules
When comparing USDT vs USDe for futures margin on MEXC, start with the asset used to settle your trades. USDT funds USDT-M positions directly. USDe can serve as alternative collateral in supported Multi-Asset Margin accounts, while USDT-M contracts still settle in USDT.
Keep the Settlement Asset and Collateral Asset Separate
MEXC lists USDe, displayed as USDE, among supported Multi-Asset Margin collateral assets.
| Decision point | USDT | USDe |
|---|---|---|
| Role in a USDT-M position | Direct margin and settlement asset. | Alternative collateral under supported Multi-Asset Margin rules; the contract still settles in USDT. |
| Account mode | Regular USDT-M trading supports Cross or Isolated Margin. | The Multi-Asset Margin route supports Cross Margin; Isolated Margin is unavailable. |
| Public Futures Earn APR reference | 5% base; up to 20% with qualifying bonuses. Personalized rates and caps apply. | 4.75% public base; check the actual USDe quote and cap. |
When USDe secures USDT-M positions, fees, funding payments or losses can create USDT liabilities if the USDT balance is insufficient. Interest may apply under the liability terms and interest-free limits. MEXC's Multi-Asset Mode guide also says that open positions, active orders or outstanding liabilities prevent switching account asset modes.
Compare Base APRs on the Same Eligible Balance
MEXC's public offer lists 5% base APR for USDT plus up to 15 percentage points in additional rewards, and 4.75% base APR for USDe. The 20% USDT maximum includes bonus conditions; compare the base rates before adding bonuses available to your account.
For illustration, 1,000 fully eligible units held for 30 days would earn approximately:
- USDT at 5% APR: 1,000 × 5% × 30 ÷ 365 = 4.11 USDT.
- USDe at 4.75% APR: 1,000 × 4.75% × 30 ÷ 365 = 3.90 USDe.
The calculation assumes constant APRs, full-period eligibility, no cap reductions and no compounding. If both tokens are valued at $1, the difference is about $0.21 before conversion costs, liability interest and trading results.
The public base-rate gap is 0.25 percentage points. For someone already holding USDe, conversion costs above about $0.21 would consume the extra 30-day base interest from switching 1,000 units into USDT under these assumptions.

USDe's Reserve Hedges Do Not Hedge Your Futures Position
Tether describes USDT reserves as cash, cash equivalents and other assets, potentially including loan receivables. USDe's synthetic-dollar design includes backing assets and offsetting derivatives hedges. Their reserve and counterparty exposures differ.
Ethena's USDe terms state that the token itself generates no interest for holders. MEXC Futures Earn is a platform arrangement; sUSDe is a separate protocol savings asset. Protocol staking APY cannot simply be added to MEXC's USDe APR.
Ethena's hedges manage exposure within the USDe reserve system. They do not hedge a BTC/USDT or ETH/USDT position you open. A decline in USDe's recognized collateral value can reduce the margin supporting your trades even while the token continues to receive an Earn reward.
Check the current USDe collateral ratio and cap in MEXC's Multi-Asset Mode Trading Rules. An interest-principal cap and a collateral limit control different things: how much earns income and how much supports positions.
Check the Exit Quote Before Converting
Before converting, check the price and available depth for your order size in the USDE/USDT market on MEXC. A dollar peg target does not guarantee execution at one USDT per USDe. Include spread, slippage and applicable fees.
Direct issuer redemption has separate access conditions. Tether publishes a $100,000 redemption minimum and a fee of the greater of $1,000 or 0.1%. Ethena limits direct USDe redemption to approved Mint Users. These issuer terms do not set MEXC's spot-trading minimums; check the exit route available to your account.
Risk Warning
Both assets carry stablecoin and platform risks. In Cross Margin, collateral value and liabilities affect the shared margin pool. Futures Earn income does not prevent liquidation or compensate automatically for trading losses.
