The Indian government has established 100 dedicated 5G Use Case Labs across educational institutions as part of a broader effort to accelerate application development using advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and blockchain. The initiative is designed to strengthen innovation capacity while deepening collaboration between academic institutions and industry players to support the country’s long-term digital growth. Details of the program were shared by the Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development, Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, in a written response presented in the Rajya Sabha.

According to information released by the Ministry of Communications, the newly established labs are intended to act as innovation hubs where students, researchers, and industry partners can jointly develop next-generation 5G applications. These labs are positioned to support multiple sectors by leveraging the capabilities of fifth-generation mobile networks and integrating emerging digital technologies into India’s national infrastructure framework.

Focus on Emerging Technologies and Industry Collaboration

The government has indicated that the primary objective of the 5G Use Case Labs is to promote practical experimentation with technologies such as AI and blockchain. By embedding these tools within academic environments, policymakers aim to reduce the gap between research and commercialization. The initiative is expected to strengthen academia-industry collaboration, which is widely viewed as essential for sustained economic development and competitiveness in a digital economy.

Officials have emphasized that application development under this program relies heavily on the technical strengths of 5G networks. High data speeds, ultra-low latency, and the ability to support a massive number of connected devices are seen as key enablers for advanced digital services and automation. These network characteristics allow developers to design solutions that were previously impractical on older mobile technologies.

Hackathon Initiative to Drive Practical Solutions

To further advance the objectives of the 5G Use Case Labs, the government has launched the 5G Innovation Hackathon 2025. This program is structured to encourage innovators, startups, and student teams to develop real-world solutions using 5G alongside other advanced technologies. The focus areas include addressing socioeconomic challenges while simultaneously building domestic technological capabilities.

Through the hackathon model, participants are expected to work on problem statements that reflect national priorities, including digital inclusion, smart infrastructure, healthcare delivery, and automation. The initiative is also intended to nurture a pipeline of skilled professionals who are familiar with deploying 5G-enabled applications at scale.

Rapid Expansion of National 5G Infrastructure

The rollout of 5G infrastructure across India has progressed rapidly, providing a strong foundation for initiatives such as the Use Case Labs. The government has reported that 5G services are now available in all states and union territories, covering nearly all districts nationwide. This extensive reach now extends to approximately 85 percent of the population.

As of December 2025, more than 5.08 lakh 5G base transceiver stations have been installed across the country, significantly expanding network capacity. This infrastructure growth has translated into tangible performance improvements, with median mobile broadband speeds rising to over 131 Mbps by October 2025. Such improvements are expected to support more sophisticated applications developed within the lab ecosystem.

Emphasis on Security and Trusted Networks

Alongside performance enhancements, the government has placed strong emphasis on security within the 5G ecosystem. The technology incorporates advanced features such as robust authentication mechanisms, encryption, and network isolation to protect users and critical services. Cybersecurity requirements are implemented in line with directives issued by the National Security Council Secretariat.

In addition, the Trusted Telecom framework has been adopted to ensure that network equipment is sourced from approved and reliable vendors. Under the Communication Security Certification scheme, Indian Telecom Security Assurance Requirements have been defined specifically for 5G network functions. Widespread adoption of these standards across the industry is intended to balance innovation with national security considerations.

Building the Foundation for Digital Growth

Through the combined deployment of 5G infrastructure, innovation labs, and security frameworks, the government aims to create an environment that supports scalable digital innovation. The 5G Use Case Labs initiative reflects a broader strategy to position India as a hub for advanced technology development, while ensuring that innovation is aligned with economic growth, security, and societal needs.

The post ETH Exit Queue Gridlocks As Validators Pile Up appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Welcome to The Protocol, CoinDesk’s weekly wrap of the most important stories in cryptocurrency tech development. I’m Margaux Nijkerk, a reporter at CoinDesk. In this issue: Ethereum Faces Validator Bottleneck With 2.5M ETH Awaiting Exit Is Ethereum’s DeFi Future on L2s? Liquidity, Innovation Say Perhaps Yes Ethereum Foundation Starts New AI Team to Support Agentic Payments American Express Introduces Blockchain-Based ‘Travel Stamps’ Network News ETHEREUM VALIDATOR EXIT QUEUE FACES BOTTLENECK: Ethereum’s proof-of-stake system is facing its largest test yet. As of mid-September, roughly 2.5 million ETH — valued at roughly $11.25 billion — is waiting to leave the validator set, according to validator queue dashboards. The backlog pushed exit wait times to more than 46 days on Sept. 14, the longest in Ethereum’s short staking history, dashboards show. The last peak, in August, put the exit queue at 18 days. The initial spark came on Sept. 9, when Kiln, a large infrastructure provider, chose to exit all of its validators as a safety precaution. The move, triggered by recent security incidents including the NPM supply-chain attack and the SwissBorg breach, pushed around 1.6 million ETH into the queue at once. Though unrelated to Ethereum’s staking protocol itself, the hacks rattled confidence enough for Kiln to hit pause, highlighting how events in the broader crypto ecosystem can cascade into Ethereum’s validator dynamics. In a blog post from staking provider Figment, Senior Analyst Benjamin Thalman noted that the current exit queue build up isn’t only about security. After ETH has rallied more than 160% since April, some stakers are simply taking profits. Others, especially institutional players, are shifting their portfolios’ exposure. At the same time, the number of validators entering the Ethereum staking ecosystem has been steadily rising. Ethereum’s churn limit, which is a protocol safeguard that caps how many validators can…
