Digital oilfield operations Nigeria are advancing as Heirs Energies and Redtech commission an Integrated Operations Monitoring Centre on OML 17, consolidating production, security and asset data into a single control point.

The two companies launched the centre in Port Harcourt on 29 June 2026. It was developed under the Heirs Energies OML 17 Joint Venture, with Redtech serving as technology partner. The commission marks a clear step forward for data-led brownfield recovery in Nigeria’s upstream sector.

A unified view of field operations

The Integrated Operations Monitoring Centre, or IOMC, brings together a wide range of field data. It covers operational intelligence, production monitoring, security surveillance, hydrocarbon evacuation, and facility performance. Critical asset data feeds into a single dashboard, giving operators a unified view of activity across OML 17.

In practical terms, the centre supports faster decisions and tighter coordination across field teams. Heirs Energies says it is designed to improve operational visibility and response speed. Redtech frames the project as proof that digital tools can simplify complex industrial operations and deliver measurable business value.

The collaboration also reflects a broader shift across Africa’s energy sector. Operators are increasingly layering digital systems onto ageing assets. The goal is to extract more value without the cost and risk of greenfield development.

Brownfield assets run more like data businesses

OML 17 already carries significant strategic weight. Since taking operatorship in 2021, Heirs Energies has raised oil output on the licence to over 50,000 barrels per day. Domestic gas supply has grown to more than 135 million standard cubic feet per day, driven by the company’s Brownfield Excellence strategy.

Brownfield assets depend on efficiency gains more than new-field scale. A digital control hub helps operators identify bottlenecks earlier and improve uptime. It also strengthens surveillance on remote facilities — a priority for Nigerian producers operating in complex environments.

The IOMC is built with expansion in mind. Heirs Energies says it creates a platform for predictive analytics, remote operations, artificial intelligence-enabled decision support, and advanced production optimisation. That positions OML 17 well beyond basic monitoring. The asset is being managed as a data-driven operation.

What investors should watch

Nigeria’s upstream story is no longer just about reserves and drilling. Execution, reliability and digital control are now core to the investment case. If Heirs Energies sustains production and gas growth while tightening field oversight, OML 17 stands as a strong model for the sector. Investors and operators should watch whether similar digital upgrades follow across other mature Nigerian licences in the coming 12 to 18 months.
