PORT DICKSON: Pantai Tanjung Biru, better known as Blue Lagoon, is fast becoming one of Port Dickson’s most talked-about attractions. Visitors have been flocking to the beach after photos and videos of its crystal-clear waters went viral on social media recently.

Known for its white sand, gently sloping shoreline and blue waters, Blue Lagoon has seen large numbers of beachgoers, particularly on weekends and during school holidays.

On a recent afternoon, visitors were seen wading and swimming in the calm waters while families relaxed along the shore. Indeed, it is a destination many say rivals some of the country’s better-known coastal getaways.

For housewife Ramlah Abd Malek, 45, a visit to Blue Lagoon was too tempting to pass up.

Ramlah, who travelled from Melaka with her family after seeing clips online, said they usually spent their beach outings at Pantai Teluk Kemang, but decided to see for themselves whether the viral videos lived up to expectations.

They did.

“It is truly beautiful and clean. The seawater is so clear that you can see the shallow seabed and occasionally spot small fish. The children really enjoyed swimming and playing here,” she shared.

Private-sector employee Marzuki Hassan, 43, was equally impressed. Captivated by online photos and videos showing the beach’s clear waters, he drove for almost two hours from Selangor with his family to visit Blue Lagoon.

The father of otwo, who had visited the beach before, said its peaceful atmosphere made it an ideal destination for family outings.

“Last time, the beach was littered with wood debris and black charcoal-like residue along the shoreline,” he recalled. “But now it is clean and the water is clear as well.

“If this keeps up, I’m confident Pantai Tanjung Biru could become a top choice for domestic tourists.”

The beach’s growing popularity is also creating opportunities for small businesses.

Trader Muhamad Asyraf Muhamad, 32, said the influx of visitors has boosted demand for activities such as banana boat rides, kayaking and jet skiing.

He estimated that operators can earn more than RM300 a day during busy periods, depending on visitor numbers.

“Business is much better during the school holidays. On other days, even earning RM100 can be difficult,” he acknowledged.

He hopes visitor interest will continue and that the area’s natural beauty will be preserved, so that Blue Lagoon will once again become one of Port Dickson’s biggest attractions.
