Key Insights:

  • Developers are currently testing the Glanmsterdam Ethereum upgrade with improvements in scalability, efficiency, and decentralization.
  • Key features include the EIP-7732, which reduces MEV-related manipulation by moving block building on-chain.
  • ETH price is showing relative strength as it approaches $1,800, and a bottom confirmation with a breakout above $2,000.

Ethereum price continued showing resilience as developers moved closer to deploying the Glamsterdam upgrade, one of the network’s most anticipated protocol improvements since The Merge.

ETH traded near $1,800 while developers completed the final stages of testing for the upcoming hard fork. Market participants are now assessing whether improving network fundamentals can support a broader recovery in Ethereum’s price.

Glamsterdam Upgrade Enters Advanced Testing Phase

Ethereum core developers have begun testing the full set of proposed changes scheduled for inclusion in the Glamsterdam upgrade.

Current development work is taking place on dedicated developer networks, commonly known as devnets. These environments allow engineers to evaluate protocol changes before deployment on public testnets and eventually the main network.

According to Ethereum Foundation DevOps engineer Parithosh Jayanthi, developers have already integrated the planned Ethereum Improvement Proposals into testing environments.

The next phase focuses on stability, security hardening, and broader testing before rollout preparations begin.

While developers have not announced a final activation date, progress has accelerated in recent months as testing expands.

Key Features Expected In Next Ethereum Upgrade

Some of the key features the Glamsterdam Ethereum upgrade brings include an enshrined Proposer Builder Separation (ePBS), formally tracked as EIP-7732, and Block-level Access Lists under EIP-7928.

The ePBS proposal would integrate into Ethereum’s core protocol a separation between block builders and block proposers. Currently, this process largely takes place off-chain. This requires additional trust assumptions and raises concerns around centralization.

By bringing the mechanism on-chain, developers aim to reduce the chances of manipulation associated to maximal extractable value (MEV). It improves the overall network fairness and decentralization.

Another key proposal, Block-level Access Lists, would allow blocks to specify in advance which accounts and smart contract data they intend to access. This change would enable Ethereum clients to preload relevant information more efficiently. It will help to make block execution faster, more predictable, and easier to optimize.

ETH Price Shows Strength

Ahead of the upgrade, ETH price is showing strength while the broader crypto market remains flat. Crypto analyst Nebraskagooner shared an updated outlook on Ethereum, noting that the asset is showing some encouraging short-term signs.

According to the analyst, the ETH price is displaying promising local strength. Nebraskagooner identified the $2,000 level as a key threshold to watch. Above this will mark the confirmation of ETH bottom formation.

Another analyst, Crypto Patel, said that Ethereum is preparing for a major rally during the next altcoin season. The analyst cited monthly hammer pattern formations on the ETH price chart, over the past decade.

Citing historical performances, Crypto Patel noted that after a monthly hammer formed in December 2016, Ethereum price rallied from approximately $6 to $1,420. Similarly, a hammer candle in December 2018 was followed by a move from around $81 to $364.

Similar situations occurred in March 2020, after which the ETH price surged from $90 to $4867. The analyst cited the April 2025 hammer candle, which was followed by a rally from $1,383 to $4,955.
