MANILA, Philippines – Social media platform Facebook and chat app Facebook Messenger suffered an outage Friday night, June 12.
Reports began at around 9 pm, Philippine time, with thousands reporting problems with the Facebook site within the hour via Downdetector.ph.
Facebook and Messenger are both inaccessible as of writing.
Strangely, even Downdetector appears to be having issues, as it showed an error 404 page at times, when one attempted to check the status of the said sites.
The problem didn’t appear to be isolated in the Philippines as many other international news sites — such as Newsweek, CNET, and The Independent — reported problems with the social media sites as well. On the Reddit subreddit for Facebook, a thread about the outage issues have so far garnered more than 3,000 comments, with many users reporting their problems.
