Nvidia shares saw a modest decline in trading as markets digested news that the company is expanding its AI memory supply chain with Taiwan-based chipmaker Nanya Technology. While the stock movement was relatively small, the development highlights a deeper structural shift in how Nvidia is preparing its next wave of artificial intelligence hardware.
The new arrangement positions Nanya as a supplemental supplier of LPDDR5X low-power DRAM for Nvidia’s advanced AI chip systems. Although the partnership does not replace existing major suppliers such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, it adds another layer of capacity and flexibility to Nvidia’s rapidly growing ecosystem.
The agreement comes at a time when demand for high-performance memory is accelerating across AI data centers. According to industry details, Nanya’s LPDDR5X supply will be used in Nvidia’s Blackwell-based systems and future platforms such as Vera Rubin.

While Blackwell currently relies heavily on SOCAMM2 memory modules supplied by established players, Nvidia is increasingly diversifying its supplier base. Nanya’s role is expected to function primarily as a backup and scaling partner, helping Nvidia reduce supply bottlenecks and improve pricing leverage across its hardware stack.
This shift reflects broader pressure in the semiconductor industry, where AI chip demand has stretched production capacity across multiple layers of the supply chain.
A key driver behind Nvidia’s expanding supplier network is the upcoming Vera Rubin architecture. Each Vera Rubin Superchip integrates both CPU and GPU components and is expected to carry up to 1.5 terabytes of memory, roughly triple the capacity of previous-generation systems.
Even with improvements such as aggressive key-value cache compression, which reduces memory load for AI context processing, demand for physical memory continues to rise. This is largely due to the growth of agentic AI workloads, which require sustained memory access for multi-step reasoning and execution tasks.
As a result, Nvidia is actively expanding supplier partnerships to avoid potential shortages and ensure continuity for future AI deployments.
The Nanya deal also reflects a broader transformation in server memory architecture. The industry is gradually moving toward SOCAMM2, a newer modular standard designed specifically for AI workloads.
Unlike traditional RDIMM modules, SOCAMM2 integrates LPDDR5X memory into a modular, replaceable format rather than soldering it directly onto system boards. This design significantly improves flexibility in data center deployments and allows easier upgrades and maintenance.
Technically, SOCAMM2 offers more than double the bandwidth of older memory systems while delivering over 75% higher energy efficiency. This makes it particularly attractive for hyperscale AI infrastructure where power consumption has become a critical constraint.
The JEDEC standards body is formalizing this transition through its JESD328 CAMM2 specification, signaling a long-term industry shift away from legacy memory designs.
However, analysts note that the continued expansion of Nvidia’s supplier ecosystem could prove significant over the long term. By adding partners like Nanya, Nvidia is not only securing memory supply but also positioning itself to scale future AI platforms without encountering the bottlenecks that have constrained other semiconductor cycles.
