Financial technology company Ripple has announced a partnership with Kyobo Life, a leading insurance company in Korea. The partnership seeks to enable settlement on bond transactions on the blockchain.

According to Ripple, it seeks to develop institutional-grade crypto infrastructure in the country.

Ripple Custody to Enable Tokenized Bond Transactions

As part of the partnership, the firm will integrate Ripple Custody into a regulated institutional setting. This will enable the platform to manage, hold, transfer, and settle tokenized bond transactions.

This onchain execution is expected to replace the current manual processes. In the long term, Ripple will also integrate the infrastructure with other capabilities, including liquidity, payments, and treasury management.

Interestingly, Ripple will also assist Kyobo in exploring stablecoin-based payment rails within a regulated framework. The two companies also plan to assess whether a tokenized treasury settlement is feasible within Korea.

It said:

“The partnership demonstrates how blockchain technology can fundamentally modernize government bond settlement in Korea. By enabling transactions to settle simultaneously, settlement cycles can move from the typical two-day settlement timeline to near real-time execution, reducing counterparty risk and improving capital efficiency.”

Meanwhile, Ripple’s Managing Director for the Asia Pacific, Fiona Murray, described the company’s foray into Korea as an attempt to demonstrate the readiness of its digital asset infrastructure. She noted that the country’s financial sector is at an inflection point and Ripple is making a strategic commitment.

This also echoes the view of Kyobo Life SVP Jin Ho Park, who noted that the partnership with Ripple is not just about digital assets. It is about integrating traditional financial instruments onto the blockchain for greater efficiency.

Ripple Continues to Expand Asia Footprint as XRP Gets Japan Listing

The partnership with Kyobo Life is part of a series of collaborations that Ripple has made in Asia. The company also partnered with other firms in countries such as Japan, Singapore, and Hong Kong, helping expand its footprint in the region.

Its joint venture, SBI Ripple Asia, recently launched a regulated token issuance platform on the XRP Ledger. The partnerships are part of Ripple’s adoption strategy, which also includes securing regulatory licenses in several jurisdictions.

Although Ripple’s wide reach is mostly through its institutional-facing products, such as Custody and Payments, it has also boosted XRP adoption. Japanese fintech firm Rakuten recently integrated XRP for payments on its Rakuten Pay app.

It also enabled XRP spot trading through the Rakuten Wallet, allowing users to buy the token using Rakuten points. The move could drive the use of XRP.

Despite these partnerships and adoption, XRP has not seen much improvement in its price performance. Although it is up 2% over the last seven days, it is still trading at $1.38, which is a 26% year-to-date drop.
